Nearly 1 billion people are cigarette addict in the world over, this number about 17 million in Turkey. He spends many adult lives on earth as addicted to cigarettes. The main cause of cancer, which causes many serious fatal diseases, is that the damages of smoking are known by everyone, especially those who smoke.
Smoking may have a negative effect on all surgical operations including hair transplantation operations. Smoking is the main cause of many diseases, from lung cancer to coronary artery disease. Smoking damages the healthy human body, it also causes serious adverse effects during and after surgery. It is important for smokers to stop smoking before hair transplantation, and to stop for a certain period of time even if they cannot stop smoking.
Studies have shown that even those who have sufficient knowledge about the harms of smoking do not know that these harmful effects in surgery and surgical operations cause much more significant dimensions. Although 92 percent of people know about the harms of smoking, they do not have enough information about the risks they cause during surgery.
Most surgical operations are performed under general anesthesia. Smokers are required to quit smoking before major surgery such as heart surgery. The main reason for this is to stop the breathing of the self during general anesthesia and continue the breathing function by means of the machine. The damage caused by smoking in the lung can cause serious risks in the awakening process after a person’s general anesthesia.
Even though hair transplantation operations are performed under local anesthesia, smoking continues to have different adverse effects.
It was determined that smoking increased the risk of complications up to 6 times before the operation. Cigarette smoke causes an increase in the number of leukocytes and platelets in the blood. Cigarette smoking rapidly decreases the oxygen level in the blood cells.
Before the surgical operations, the smoking cessation rate remains at 43% and the success rate of the operations is affected. 54% of the patients who smoke after the operation starts to smoke in two days without any recovery. This situation seriously interrupts the healing and treatment process.
By smoking, about 4000 chemicals in particulate and gaseous form enter the body of the person and form deformation in the cellular dimension.
In the cigarette, there are about 6000 chemicals and the changes in DNA structure in the body by withdrawing the cigarette into the lungs. Even a single cigarette smokes may cause changes in cell structure and function. There are 55 cancer-causing substances in the cigarette in a large amount and the risk increases when smoking.
These substances, which function to the cells through cigarettes, adhere to the DNA structure, bind to DNA. Chemical substances entering the body in the form of particulates form residual substances that accumulate over time in areas such as lungs, a respiratory tract that directly affect smoking and trigger cancer formation.
Since the first second of the cessation of smoking, the level of carbon dioxide in the blood is gradually decreasing and it is replaced by the arrows which have a great effect on the nutrition of the organs. Although the blood pressure level is above normal for a long time, the blood pressure level returns to normal as the hours go by.
It is recommended not to smoke after the operation in order not to interrupt the healing process. The mandatory procedure prescribed by doctors in hair transplantation operations is 10 days. After the operation, smoking significantly affects the recovery time because it decreases the oxygen level in the blood, interferes with the blood circulation and prevents the correct functioning of the immune system.
After hair transplantation operations, smoking effects negatively affect operation success. Sensitive hair roots, which are taken from the donor area and placed in their new places, need fast and healthy blood flow to be able to be fed and accustomed to new areas.
